Scott,

Thanks for the comment. I'm glad our newsletter answered the question my email reply didn't. That was an oversight on my part in the middle of a very busy day. Sorry about that! --Mike

I just emailed you last week asking about oil change service. The reply was generic with no answer. Now I see my answer on your last months complimentary fuel savings inspection email. You just gained two more customers. We value your expertise and have had service with you in the past.

William,

I'm sorry for the very lengthy delay to your request. For some reason, I didn't see it when it came through initially. To answer your question, if you go with synthetic, yes, you can extend the oil change interval to 5k and 6 months. That's our standard recommendation for synthetic oil. I hope this helps. Please let me know if we can provide more info.

Sincerely,
Angi

Hope the info was helpful. Sorry, I don't recall how we purchased this theme. Are you able to see which one it is? If so, I'm assuming you can Google to find a current version.

I purchased a used 09, LS 460 Lexus resently and the dealer said I should change my oil at 5M miles or 4 months. I am confused now that you said 3M miles or 3 months. If I use synthetic oil in the future can I change the oil at 5M miles or 4 months? Let me know your input on this. Thanks, Wm. Mendal

So what's the basis of the 3000-mile recommendation? I've seen several postings on the web that claim Jiffy-Lube came up with it. And of course we can trust THEM. I do know Consumer Reports did a study several years ago using New York City taxis, in which one fleet ran 3000 miles and another ran 6000. They then tore down the engines and found no significant wear differences between the two. I certainly think taxis can be considered "severe service" vehicles. That's the most scientific study I've seen to date.
Other things have changed in the years since the 3000-mile recommendation: Better-built engines, oil life monitors and synthetic oils. Until I see another well-done study, I'm going with the manufacturer's 5000-10000 mile recommendation, rather than Jiffy-Lube's.
